Benefits
Thai yoga massage is relaxing and stimulating for the mind and body, traditionally used as preventative treatment to enhance wellbeing through stress relief and boosting energy levels. It is based on the simple power of touch and research has shown that the benefits are physical, emotional, and physiological.
Improved Circulation
Blood is a major transport system within the body. It distributes oxygen and nutrients to cells, which is the fuel for all the chemical activities in the body. Therapeutic massage causes the blood vessels to dilate. This improves the flow of arterial blood from the heart enabling more oxygen and nutrients to the cells. The blood flow to the heart is also improved so the removal rate of metabolic waste is increased. These factors allow the cells to operate at optimum efficiency. The increased blood flow produces warmth, which promotes relaxation, similar to lying in a warm bath.
Toxin Removal
Toxins are not only produced by the body but can enter through diet and environmental factors. The lymphatic system is a network of glands, tubes and vessels designed to remove viruses, bacteria and draining unwanted fluid and materials from the body. Directed pressure improves the circulation of the lyphatic system, helping to improve immunity and cell function
Less Aches and Pains
Massage therapy stimulates the nerve ending in the skin by activating A-beta receptors. This interupt the C-fibres which carry the signals of pain from the nociceptors. The release of endorhpins can enchance this effect thereby reducing the need for analgesics such as paracetamol.
Massage therapy affects the nervous system through nerve endings in the skin, stimulating the release of endorphins, which bring pain relief. Thai Massage can be effective in stimulating weak, inactive muscles and therefore partially compensate for a lack of exercise and inactivity resulting from illness or injury. It eases tense and knotted muscles and breaks up adhesions. Thai massage is especially effective at improving joint mobility and flexibility, through manipulations. When muscles become overworked, certain harmful metabolic and cellular waste may accumulate in the muscles causing soreness, e.g. lactic acid; through direct pressure, the rate of removal can be increased.
Stress relief
Endorphins are the body’s natural ‘feel good’ chemicals, not only do they reduce pain but they help to induce relaxation and reduce levels of stress chemicals such as cortisol and noradrenalin. Also blood pressure can be reduced due to blood vessel dilation. Receiving a massage can therefore promotes deeper and be used as a treatment for insomnia.
